Literature searches can provide you will a wealth of information, or deluge you with useless information. The library can prepare a literature search for you, or you may search the literature yourself. Contact the library if you need assistance.

Search Medline using PubMed  (click to search)

PubMed is the National Library of Medicine's search engine to search the Medical Literature.  PubMed contains all of the citations (and abstracts when available) that have been indexed in Index Medicus.  Citations from 1966 to the present are included.

Search Clinical Trials  (click to search)

The National Library of Medicine maintains this database of clinical trials.  The database can be searched for information about clinical trials of interest to you or your patients.

Search ScienceDirect  (click to search)

ScienceDirect is a product of Elsevier Publishers.  You can search their titles here, or browse the tables of contents of their journals.  You may access the full-text of subscribed journals, which have a green icon next to the journal name.  After connecting to ScienceDirect, select "Group-wide login" for access from inside the hospital.  If you wish to access ScienceDirect from outside the hospital, and are a hospital employee or on our medical staff, please contact the library for a Personal login account.

Search Cochrane Library  (click to search)

The Cochrane Library is a database of evidence-based medicine.  After connecting to the Cochrane Library, click on "Enter" for IP subscribers.  This link will only work from the hospital's computers.

Search Clinical Guidelines  (click to search)

The National Guidelines Clearinghouse may be searched for clinical guidelines on a variety of topics.  You may also join their mailing list for new information and updates.

Search MD Consult  (click to search)

MD Consult provides access to some full-text journals, full-text textbooks, guidelines, medical news, and much more.  If you are not already subscribed to MD Consult, please register for access.  You may only register through this website if you are a hospital employee or a member of our medical staff.

Search UpToDate (click to search)

Use UpToDate to see summarized clinical information on a topic.  Limited to onsite use.
 

Search CINAHL  (click to search)

CINAHL is the Cumulative Index of Nursing and Allied Health Literature, and is searchable using Ovid.  Passwords for use outside the hospital are available.
 

Search AccessMedicine (click to search)

AccessMedicine contains preclinincal and clinical textbooks, including Harrison's Online, Current Medical Diagnosis and Treatment, Schwartz Surgery Online, and many other titles.  AccessMedicine also contains Lange Case Files, and the Lange Self-Assessment tool powered by USMLEasy.
 

Search EBSCOhost (click to search)

EBSCOhost contains a variety of searchable databases, and includes many full-text articles in both newspapers, journals, and popular magazines.. 

Search eMedicine   (click to search)

eMedicine offers thousands of peer-reviewed, disease-specific articles written and edited by over 7,000 physicians, including some physicians on staff at St. Joseph's.  Articles usually contain clinical presentation, differentials, workup, treatment, medication and follow-up care.  eMedicine also includes over 100 medical tools and calculators.
